WHO WE ARE:
The Muslim Career Collective is a community built by Muslim women, for Muslim women. It was created from the understanding that navigating the professional world can come with unique challenges, especially when trying to balance personal values, cultural expectations, and career goals.
After experiencing different workplaces and career environments, I realised the importance of having a space where Muslim women feel seen, supported, and encouraged to thrive. This platform is designed to provide the guidance and connection I once wished I had, a place where women can learn from each other, seek advice, find mentors, and celebrate each other's achievements.
I started in the workforce when I was 15, and from a young age, I found myself going from job to job, trying to find where I belonged. By the time I was 20, I had worked around six different jobs, gaining experience in different workplaces and learning something new from each one. But throughout that journey, I never truly felt like I fitted in.
As I became more connected to my faith, I was also learning how to balance being a Muslim woman with being part of the workforce. I was shy about praying at work, and I often found myself putting my faith and my own values aside because I didn’t want to stand out. I wasn’t always prioritising my faith the way I wanted to, and I felt like I had to choose between being comfortable at work and being comfortable in who I was. When I decided to wear the hijab, those feelings became even stronger. I worried about standing out and being judged, and eventually, I made the decision to leave my job rather than continue feeling like I couldn’t be fully myself. But my story didn’t end there. At my most recent workplace, I had the opportunity to take part in an Islamic traineeship through an employment program sponsored by the Bachar Houli Foundation. It was an experience that helped me see my faith and my career differently. I began to realise that I didn’t have to hide my identity, minimise my faith or compromise my values to be a good worker. Fast forward to today, and I embrace my identity wholeheartedly, and I aim to pass this confidence along.
I’m comfortable praying, wearing my hijab and allowing my faith to be part of my everyday professional life. I’ve learned that being a Muslim woman in the workplace doesn’t make you any less capable, ambitious or professional. If anything, embracing who I am has made me more confident in what I can achieve. My journey is one of learning to stop hiding parts of myself and start embracing them. I created Muslim Career Collective because I want other Muslim women to know that they don’t have to choose between their faith and their careers.
Together, we are building a community where faith is the foundation, ambition is encouraged, and impact is the goal.
OUR MISSION:
We exist simply to empower Muslim women, to confidently assist them in pursuing their career aspirations while staying connected to their faith, values, and identity. Our mission is to create a supportive space where Muslim women can access meaningful resources, mentorship, career guidance, and opportunities that help them grow personally and professionally.
We believe that Muslim women should never feel like they have to choose between their faith and their ambitions. Through shared experiences, honest conversations, and a strong community, we aim to inspire women to embrace who they are, recognise their strengths, and create meaningful impact in their workplaces and communities.
